Death's true name is Alaric, and he was the third son of Adam and Eve. When Cain killed Abel, and committed the first murder - God and the Devil wanted to make sure that the consequences of doing so were made clear. So they took Alaric and made him into the incarnation of Death, and made him haunt Cain for the years to come. The Devil, always full of tricks, added in more monstrous aspects than God had expected, and so Death ran rampant on Cain and his descendants of many generations, until after some time, his mind reached clarity and he was able to think for himself once more.At this time, there was no other vampire but him, and he kept it this way for a long while. However upon the feeling of loneliness slowly eating at his core, he decided to find a way to make others like him.. THE ANCIENTS. . The ancients are the first (and seemingly the only) seven people that Death made into vampires. Each one of them are based on a deadly sin, and each one of them were changed for different reasons. You may find more information about the Ancients on a button below.. DEATH'S VOICE. .
The Embrace can actually speak. He just chooses not to more often than not. If we were to put a term to it, Embrace is selectively mute. He chooses to speak through signs or the shadows instead, ways that don’t require him to use his actual voice or even require him to open his mouth.Death’s Voice is deep, hoarse from lack of use, but surprisingly soft and calming. He occasionally uses his voice to calm those that have died, calming spirits that are acting up, his voice has a special effect that does this. But even then it’s not often he actually does this.Many are already so afraid of death, that he chooses not to speak and make it worse. He has taken an unofficial vow of silence especially ever since Faye and Jonah passed away. Not many have heard his voice, even the ancients can’t claim to have heard it. He only brings it out in special occasions like above, or to those he fully trusts.
. THE CANDLEROOM . It is a pocket dimension that only Embrace has access to, unless he invites someone inside. It appears as a door that appears from thin air, a black wooden door with an empty plaque on it.Inside the candle room is candles as far as the eye can see. Some are on small hand held holders, some are on large candle sticks, some are on tables. What the holder is shaped like or what the candle is placed on can say a lot about a person. The type of candle used can also say a lot about the person it belongs to. Some are fancy multicolored candles, while others are simple white candles. It all depends on the person. Also, none of the candles have names on them, But when standing in front of one, Embrace knows exactly who it belongs to. He doesn’t bother memorizing everyone’s names, as that would be a world full of names to remember. But he can gain the information he needs by approaching a candle.The room is pitch black aside from the candle’s glow, so it’s just enough to be able to see well to walk around, but not a blinding light. There’s pathways made to walk around the candle room without having to step over candles, but even the floor looks pitch black.And yes, he even has candles of supernatural beings aswell. They are not except from a lifecycle, ‘immortal’ or not. Possibly the only ones not in his candle room are other gods, but there are holders dedicated to them, just no candle.
. DEATH'S DOOR. . This is more a headcanon for the Ancients but - the ancients can summon Death’s Door, aka the door to the candle room. But it requires a lot of energy for them to do so, even being the ones turned by death himself. The only one who can summon death’s door easily is death himself, for him it’s as easy as breathing.Human’s have sought ways to meet with death since the beginning of time. The only one who succeeded in summoning death’s door was Owen - before he was changed into a vampire - and it required many human sacrifices.Death’s Godson can summon death’s door a limited number of times, through a series of letters that Death himself gave to his godson - all he has to do is open the letter and place it on the ground and the door will come out of the shadows nearest to where the placement of the letter is. He gives his godson a total of five letters - but (in his ‘canon’ verse) didn’t use any of them and thus didn’t see the candle room until just before he was about to die.
. VAMPIRISM. . Embrace is the first vampire to ever exist, and with that comes some perks that other vampires don’t have. For example, he can walk out in the sunlight. It’s not a pleasant experience, as he is sensitive to the light in a general sense, but he doesn’t burst into flames.He can go long periods without blood, even centuries if needed. Yes, he’ll need it eventually - but being a god as well as the first vampire makes blood more of a choice rather than a necessity. Embrace doesn’t frenzy, he doesn’t go into a blood thirsty rage, he just gets hungry. Thankfully, thanks to his role as Death, he’s never without blood of the dying.As mentioned in his story, it’s not just the blood he takes from others, but their life energy aswell. Thus he only feeds on the dying, for risk of shortening someone’s lifespan on accident. He’s the only vampire who does this, as it’s more because of the fact he’s Death - sucking out people’s life, killing them, comes with the territory of being Death. Life energy is probably something he needs more than blood. Though all vampires are capable of killing through a bite, Embrace is the only one who doesn't need to specifically suck blood to do so.The lower the generation, the more akin to Embrace vampires are. The Ancients are the first generation, and thus anyone changed by them is the second, and so on and so forth. Most modern vampires have no idea that Embrace even exists, or if they do they think it's just an old vampire story and that he's not real. Many old vampires still pay Embrace respect with offerings of different kinds in order to earn a favor from their master.. THE TOME. .
The tome that he carries not only contains the names of all vampires, but also ancient rituals and magic that his blood is capable of. He keeps these close to him, as he doesn’t want anyone taking advantage of his blood or use the writings for the wrong reasons. Only a few of the original vampires, the ancients, know a fraction of what The Embrace knows.One of the things he never lets anyone see is his real name. It has no actual power of him physically, but emotionally it would cause him to waver should he hear it out loud once again.. NAMES. . Death goes by a few names. The most common to those who know him are simply 'Death' or 'The Embrace' / just 'Embrace'. When in his human disguises, he often changes names every few centuries. Currently his most common name to say in public would be Orpheus Harper.
